Is your family in search of some good old fashioned family fun? Why not take a road trip to the mountains of East Tennessee. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the communities that act as gateways to the mountains are one of the Southeast's best destinations for a summer getaway the whole family can enjoy. Be sure to visit the All The Smokies website for all kinds of attractions and amusement ideas.
Dollywood and Dollywood's Splash Country often come to mind first when people think of Pigeon Forge, and Dollywood does not disappoint! Do you love roller coasters? If so, you won't want to miss the new Screaming Wild Eagle, which is billed as the first Winged Roller Coaster ever built. The reviews on the ride are incredible so you will need to check this out for yourselves. Dollywood also provides a atmostphere of overall family fun, with it's charming setting, ageless fun activities, fantastic foods, and entertainment shows throughout the day, Dollywood is worth the ticket price. If your family loves the water - a combined ticket for Dollywood and Dollywood's Splash Country may be all you need to keep the family happy for several days! After 3:00 the next day is Free, so that might be a fantastic way to visit the park and stay cool. Arrive at 5:00 pm on one day and return at 9:00 am the next day and skip the more warm hours of the afternoon! Of course, Dollywood has fun water rides to keep you cool too so whatever time you go it will be a great time for all.
We highly recommend a trip to Townsend, TN to the Heritage Museum if you crave a bit of Appalachian culture and history. This museum has great hands on opportunities for kids to imagine life in the Smokies many years ago. Make the day complete by planning on traveling through Cades Cove on the 11 mile loop with a basket packed with picnic goodies! Allow us to recommend Smoky Creek Cabins, or Cove Mountain cabins for a Smoky Mountain cabin that is located near Townsend and Pigeon Forge!
One of the Smokie's secrets for fun include Mynatt Park in Gatlinburg. If you love to picnic, play games, walk, and enjoy nature then Mynatt Park might be the perfect spot for you. Take your whiffle balls items and play a game of ball. Kids can fish for free with no license and there is easy access to the stream. Tennis courts and playgrounds make this fantastic park an excellent free way to spend a great day. Directly up the road is the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail which we highly recommend! It is a drive through tour of the park with many pull over opportunities. Trail heads are located throughout the drive so hiking may be a great idea for your group, just be sure to hike prepared! Rainbow Falls is a favorite Smoky Mountain hike that is located on this trail.
Stay tuned to our blog as we post Smoky Mountain activities, festivals, and off the beaten path fun places you can enjoy on your upcoming trip to the Smokies!
